No donations from Sephora to Trump campaign | Fact check

A Nov. 10 Threads post (direct link, archive link) claims a major beauty product retailer financially contributed to President-elect Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
“Sephora donated BIG to Trump’s campaign,” the post reads. “Ulta did not.”
The post was shared more than 200 times in nine days. Other versions of the claim, including ones that name numerous other companies, were shared on Facebook.

Some of Sephora’s employees and their immediate family members donated to Trump – the company itself did not. It’s illegal for corporations to donate to political campaigns.
The Federal Election Campaign Act prohibits corporations from donating to federal candidates. Corporations may set up political committees, called PACs, through which their employees can donate to campaigns, but the publicly available donation information for Sephora’s parent company, LVMH, shows this wasn’t the case.
The company’s contributions can be found on the nonpartisan and nonprofit campaign finance tracking website OpenSecrets. The page lists $318 in “individual” donations to Trump’s campaign from “members, employees or owners of the organization and those individuals’ immediate family members,” but it doesn’t show any contributions from the company itself or its PACs.
Meanwhile, the site lists more than $35,000 in donations from Sephora-connected individuals to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. Sephora declined to comment on the record.

The page includes a disclaimer reiterating that the company itself did not provide the financial contributions.
In comparison, individuals affiliated with Ulta donated more than $7,000 to both Harris and Trump.
USA TODAY previously debunked false claims that several media companies’ CEOs donated to Trump and that Oprah Winfrey and four federal agencies donated to Harris.
USA TODAY reached out to the user who shared the post for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
PolitiFact, AFP and Snopes also debunked the claim.
