Amazon launches four new Kindles, shows off first Kindle with a colour display

Amazon has introduced a series of new Kindles, expanding its popular e-reader lineup with four fresh models. The major highlight of the announcement is the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which is the company’s first-ever e-reader with a colour e-ink display. Joining it are the upgraded Kindle Scribe, Kindle Paperwhite, and a refreshed entry-level Kindle, each offering new features. From AI-driven tools to faster page turns and waterproof designs, Amazon’s latest releases cater to both casual readers and avid e-book enthusiasts alike. At the moment, there is no information on the Indian announcement yet. Here is everything you need to know.
Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition
As mentioned above, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is Amazon’s first colour e-ink display. This is aimed at those who enjoy reading comics, viewing photos, or using color-coded highlights. The new display uses a nitride LED light guide, which Amazon claims provides a paper-like reading experience with better contrast and vibrant colours.
This premium e-reader is also waterproof, making it suitable for a variety of environments, and comes with a battery that can last up to eight weeks on a single charge. It also supports wireless charging, adding to its convenience. Priced at $279.99, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is set to begin shipping on October 30.
Kindle Scribe (2024)
The second-generation Kindle Scribe brings several new features, including a 10.2-inch display with 300ppi resolution. The highlight of this model is the integration of AI-powered tools, such as the ability to summarise text into bullet points and the option to convert handwritten notes into typed text, making it a versatile tool for professionals and students alike.
One of the major improvements is the Active Canvas, which ensures that book notes remain intact even when adjusting font sizes or changing layouts. The device also comes with Amazon’s Premium Pen stylus, featuring a soft tip for a more natural writing experience. The Kindle Scribe is priced at $399.99.
Kindle Paperwhite
The new Kindle Paperwhite gets a series of upgrades, starting with a 7-inch e-ink display enhanced by an oxide thin-film transistor. This improves text clarity and contrast, according to the company. Page turns are now 25 percent faster. Like its predecessors, the new Paperwhite is fully waterproof, maintaining its appeal for readers who enjoy taking their e-reader outdoors or by the pool.
The standard edition starts at $159.99 with 16GB of storage, while the Signature Edition comes with 32GB and wireless charging, priced at $199.99.
Entry-Level Kindle
Finally, Amazon has also refreshed its entry-level Kindle, which offers a budget-friendly option for readers. While the changes are minimal compared to the previous version, this model now features faster page turns and 16GB of storage. The price for this updated Kindle is set at $109.99.
